1. Background
The Tamaskan Dog Register, Inc. (TDR) registers breeders and kennels for two main reasons:

  1. To provide parties interested in the breeding of Tamaskan Dogs a unified organization under which these parties may seek resources, guidance, and liability protection; and
  2. To be able to present the general community with a standard of breeding practices such that dogs borne under TDR breeders and kennels meet breed standards in temperament, health, and appearance.

As such, the TDR registers kennels synonymously with breeders. TDR breeders must agree to the Breeding Regulations and adhere to the guidelines set forth within the Code Of Ethics.

As with dog/litter registrations, all registrations with the TDR are handled by the seated TDR Registrar, who can be reached at [email protected].

2. Registering a Kennel
To register a new kennel name with the TDR, please complete the Kennel Registration Form. Instructions and fees are provided within the form.

Once registered, the TDR will announce the kennel across social media and any other TDR-maintained news outlets, and list the kennel on the TDR’s official website and any other existing venues. Breeders will be given access to TDR breeders’ resources. These listings and availability of resources will continue as long as the kennel is considered “active” within the TDR.

2.1 Kennel Naming
The registered kennel name will include an affix associated with all puppies produced by the kennel. Typically, the uniquely identifiable portion of the name is used as the affix, and words such as “Kennel,” or “Tamaskan,” that complete the official kennel name are excluded. Similarly, the TDR will list kennels by only the affix.

For instance, a kennel named “Frozen Paws Tamaskan Dogs” will have puppies whose registered names are “Frozen Paws Sea Skimmer,” and be listed within the TDR’s directories and website(s) as “Frozen Paws.”

Additionally, kennel names must adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Affixes may not exceed a MAXIMUM of 15 characters, excluding spaces;
  • Names may not contain any special symbols or characters, other than an apostrophe (‘) or hyphen (-); accent marks are allowed, as long as they are part of the language spoken within the kennel’s country of registration;
  • Names containing words that will be rejected include, but may not be limited to:
    • Family names
    • Single numbers (e.g., “One,” or “13”)
    • Single letters
    • Trademarked, registered, or copyrighted words/branding
    • Titles issued in dog sports, or dog sport venues
    • Corporation or trade names
    • Derogatory or discriminatory words
    • Names of dog breeds or references to dog breeds (excluding Tamaskan Dog)
    • Words similar in spelling or phonetic pronunciation of any of the above
  • Names may not be similar to an existing Tamaskan Dog Register kennel;
  • Names may not be similar to kennels in other Tamaskan Dog registries;
  • Names may not be similar to well-known kennels of any other breeds.

NOTE: The “official” kennel naming rules noted above are effective January 1, 2020. Existing kennel names that may not adhere to the above guidelines are excluded from these conventions.

2.2 Changing a Kennel Name
Kennels may apply for a name change within thirty (30) days of initial registration, and provided that a breeding has not occurred within that time. To change a registered kennel name, please submit a Kennel Name Change Form. Instructions and fees for the name change are described therein.

3. Annual Maintenance
Effective January 1, 2020, the TDR considers an “active” kennel as one who is up-to-date on its annual maintenance fee. The fee is listed in the Fee Schedule. Annual maintenance fees are due at the beginning of every year. New kennels who registered with the TDR after June of a given year will not have to pay their yearly maintenance fee until the second following January. For instance, a newly registered kennel in June 2019 will not pay their annual maintenance fee until January 2021.

Inactive kennels and their breeders and dogs may be unlisted from the TDR website or otherwise removed from TDR resources. Reactivating an inactive kennel will also incur a re-listing fee, as discussed in the fee schedule.

4. Paperwork
Effective June 1, 2019, the named owner of a newly registered kennel will receive a TDR Registered Kennel Certificate that declares the kennel and its named breeder(s) as official Tamaskan Dog Register, Inc., breeders.

TDR Breeders who registered prior to June 1, 2019 may also request a kennel certificate by completing the Kennel Certificate Request Form.

4.1 Copies of Paperwork
Copies of a kennel certificate may be requested by completing the Kennel Certificate Request Form. A fee will be charged to cover the cost of the reissuance, as listed in the Fee Schedule.

4.2 Updating Paperwork
The seated Registrar should be contacted for any updates required for a kennel registration. Updates include items such as a change of address, the addition or removal of breeders associated with the kennel, etc.

A records update can be made to the TDR’s database without requesting new paperwork. The Fee Schedule pertains only to updates that also request new paperwork.

4.3 Corrections
The seated TDR Registrar should be contacted immediately if any errors or issues are noted within an issued Registered Kennel Certificate. All corrections will be filed with the TDR, and new paperwork will be issued at no cost to the kennel/breeder.
